Federal law requires each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion - to give you a FREE credit report every 12 months if you ask for it. They also make it easy to accomplish many credit-related tasks right from your computer.
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free.
The San Joaquin County District Attorney's CASE program provides critical information necessary to keep senior citizens from becoming victims of fraud and abuse. This is done through a partnership between the District Attorney's Office and our community to share information with seniors.
The District Attorney's Office staff provides materials, information, and presentations on Power Against Fraud seminars. These seminars provide information on a number of subjects, including; how to protect yourself from physical and financial abuse, how to check credit reports, how to avoid telemarketing and online scams, and how to avoid investment scams.
Finally, the District Attorney's Office has a dedicated Elder Fraud Line: (209) 468-2488. Seniors can call to get a live person to assist them if they have been victimized, have any questions about the criminal justice system, or are in need of services.
